Democracy is the government that vests power in the people (Barbour and Wright, 2017, pg. 10). In democracy government is the people (Barbour and Wright, 2017, pg. 11). Democracy helps in maximizing the freedom for the individuals living under this kind of government. It preserves individual rights especially protections of due process and minority rights (Barbour and Wright, 2017, pg. 11). There are three types of democracies and mixture of all these three democracies suits best our American system today. These three democracies are the elite democracy, pluralist democracy and participatory democracy.
